Maderas Wooden Floors – Facts

One of the factors that makes nature so beautiful is its constant change. You won't find two identical trees. That's why each element of wooden flooring is unique. This diversity captivates us.

Plank Construction

Paradoxically, this feature of wooden flooring does not affect its appearance but is a crucial decision you make early on. The construction of the floor determines the range of “safe” plank sizes available and significantly impacts the ease of daily use.

Solid wood flooring

As the name suggests, this flooring is made from a single piece of wood. It naturally reflects the character of the wood. Traditionally associated with durability and the potential for unlimited refinishing, solid wood is, however, more sensitive to changes in the room’s microclimate. This natural movement of the wood means that solid wood planks typically need to be narrower and shorter than those used in engineered flooring.

Engineered Wood Flooring

Wood swells with high humidity and shrinks with low humidity. The layered construction of engineered planks minimizes these effects. It maintains balance between the layers, ensuring stability of the flooring under various conditions. The cross-layer arrangement of the three layers allows the wood to naturally adjust to changes in humidity and temperature while reducing stress and limiting the formation of unsightly gaps.

grade of wood

Wood grade is a way of grouping planks based on their visual characteristics. This classification helps us provide a floor that meets your expectations. It’s important to note that wood grade affects only the appearance and not the quality of the floor. However, it does reflect in the price, with differences between grades ranging from a few to several percent.

Our five-tier wood grading system accurately represents the character of our floors.

select

Floors of this grade are made from the most uniform planks with minimal knots. The grain pattern and structure can vary, with allowed features including healthy knots filled with neutral-colored filler and secondary white areas. Despite these allowances, SELECT grade floors are distinguished by their elegance and uniform texture.

natur

Floors in the NATUR grade fully showcase the natural character of the wood. The planks feature varied colors and textures, with diverse grain patterns and occasional knots and secondary white areas. Gaps are filled with neutral-colored filler. These floors are versatile and provide an excellent backdrop for a wide range of interior designs.

rustic

Floors in the RUSTIC grade reveal the raw beauty of untamed nature. The wood features highly varied colors and textures, with free grain patterns and an unlimited number of knots, including cracked and dark ones. Gaps are filled with neutral-colored filler. RUSTIC grade floors provide an excellent foundation for interiors inspired by nature.

old (hand-aged)

The OLD grade features aged planks that mimic the look of wood used for many years, including marks, dents, and burn traces. Natural cracks and gaps throughout the wood are filled with black filler. This grade may also include inlays made from wood. OLD grade flooring provides a distinctive and character-filled foundation for unique interiors.

deep brush

The DEEP BRUSH selection features rustic-grade planks with pronounced texturing and deep brushing of the wood surface. On one hand, they reveal the full spectrum of unique characteristics that this material can showcase, while on the other, they captivate with their textured grain.

Design: Surface Finish

The natural beauty of wood is our starting point and reference. In our view, true craftsmanship lies not in creating something new but in skillfully highlighting its inherent qualities. We achieve these excellent results through our modern production line and the expertise of our artisans.

Bevel

Beveling involves slightly chamfering the edges of a plank. This process accentuates its shape and helps mask any effects of the wood’s natural movement. A micro bevel enhances the floor’s aesthetics, making it look like a stylish piece of furniture. A deep bevel, on the other hand, amplifies the sense of space in a room: a two-sided bevel (on the long edges) adds depth, while a four-sided bevel gives the arrangement a rustic character.

hand-ageing

Aging the wood surface involves deliberate distressing. This treatment includes techniques such as beating, sanding, planing, and even scraping. The process ensures a rugged, aged appearance and a wealth of unique characteristics.

structuring

Structuring involves deep brushing to bring out the natural grain and texture of the wood. This process adds a new dimension to the floor, highlighting the texture and inherent beauty of the wood. Depending on the depth of structuring, the result can range from a subtle to a pronounced grain pattern. The texture of a brushed floor is tactile, allowing you to appreciate the perfection and natural traces of the wood.

Size of Planks: Parquet or Floorboard?

Personal taste and preferences are not the only factors in choosing the size of your floor planks. It’s important to select a size that complements the proportions of the room. For this reason, we offer a wide range of sizes for planks and tiles. The most popular options include floorboards with widths of 15, 19, 26 or even 30 cm, available in lengths ranging from 60 to 240 cm.
